5 of the best Font Websites

by | Feb 2, 2023

When searching for new fonts to use there are SO MANY  sites to choose from.

Options that always feature in the top of my search are the free font libraries with annoying pop-ups and confusing download links.

Not only are they unpleasant from a user-experience perspective, but their licensing is questionable.  And being a Licensing Brand Manager in a previous career, I prefer to always do things above board.

On the other end of the scale their are font foundries that will create custom fonts for your brand.  Oh so luxe, but so far in 100% of the projects I’ve worked on, the client doesn’t have budget for that.

So here are my list of the top 5 sites that you can confidently source quality fonts, and enjoy a pleasant user-experience in the process.

1. CREATIVE MARKET

I love this site. For so many reasons.  And beautiful fonts is high on that list of reasons.

Being able to purchase quality fonts, secure in the knowledge that the correct licence will be granted for any commercial projects (which all of mine are!), and without the need of an ongoing subscription is why this site makes the top of my list.

2. MYFONTS

I use MyFonts frequently – the way that fonts are presented makes it really easy to visualise how they could look in a project.  Pretty good for inspiration too.

And there are fonts for days!  I could lose a whole day looking through their different options … (if I ever had the time).

3. ADOBE FONTS

This one is great if you’re already using Adobe CC.

It syncs with your Adobe applications for a seamless integration, and, as you would expect from Adobe, displays the fonts in beautiful ways wtih plenty of graphic examples to inspire your decisions.

4. GOOGLE FONTS

You can’t really go past Google fonts if you’re looking for quality fonts for your website – that are free for commercial use!  In fact, you can download them and use them for print and other purposes too.

It has a decent selection and is simple to use.  The fonts can be embedded directly into your website.

The only issue I find with this site is its cursive font options.  I don’t really like any of them.  Although I’m sure there are many people who will disagree with me on that…

5. FONT SHOP

Now I don’t actually use this site as much as the others, however it’s always worth taking a look at their great catalogue of font options.

The really fun thing about this site is their quick try feature.  It’s different and a little quirky.

You can try out your text in any font and see it on a record cover.  Also check out their Try Out section where you can test in different formats such as postcard or book template.

BONUS SITE: FLIPPING TYPICAL

OK,  not technically as font source, but this is a really handy tool for seeing which of the existing fonts on your system will look best in a specific word or phrase.

It saves you scrolling through the hundreds of fonts on your computer trying to decide which one to use.

They are all there.

Magically displayed together on the one screen in the words you chose.

Go ahead and try it out!
